A city-wide LED streetlight retrofit
Ipswich City Council
Ipswich City Council was awarded Australian Government funding to implement an iconic street lightng project to change over 2,616 street lights in 11 suburbs of South East QLD to energy efficient LED technology.
Need for project
Energy efficienct streetlighting in QLD has historically been a difficult area to create change due to the split of ownership between Councils and electricity distribution network service providers. This project created an opportunity for both parties to collaborate to install LED lighting at the local in South East QLD at the local level. Without assistance of the grant, it is unlikely this project and collaboration partnership would have gone ahead.
Project deliverables and outcomes
The project successfully exceeded the expectations of the number of light fittings to be converted to LED technology achieving a 74% reduction in energy use within the selected 11 suburbs.
Other benefits of the project include instant illumination with no run-up or re-strike delays, improved night visability due to highter colour rendering and increased illuminance uniformity.
