City of Boroondara – Sustainable Lighting Project
City of Boroondara
The City of Boroondara's project will switch approximately 6,450 streetlights from inefficient Mercury Vapour 80W streetlights to energy efficient T5 lights on its residential streets.
Need for project
The Boroondara Council is not able to fund this stage of the project without CEEP funding. This funding will ensure the entire municipality is completed during CitiPower's scheduled renewal and replacement program.
Project deliverables and outcomes
The project has successfully achieved the required outcomes of reduced street lighting costs and reduced greenhouse emissions. The ongoing financial savings in reduced electricity consumption and reduced maintenance charges is approximately $380,000 per year. The reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will significantly contribute to Council's ongoing greenhouse emission target.
